Calling All Chocolate Lovers … Sample and Savor the Third Annual Old Sacramento Chocolate Week, May 8-14, 2017

Sweet, satisfying and sinfully smooth.  Get ready to enjoy chocolate in oh-so-many ways – drizzled on fresh and warm mini donuts, made into spicy cayenne cocoa bites or even dripping in dark chocolate balsamic vinegar – during the third annual Old Sacramento Chocolate Week, May 8-14.  Coordinated by the Downtown Sacramento Partnership with support by involved merchants and businesses, chocolate lovers of all ages are invited to visit Old Sacramento to experience a variety of delicious and delectable chocolate-related activities throughout the historic district all week long.  For more details and a complete list of activities, specials and featured items, see our schedule below.

Monday, May 8, 12:00pm – 5:00pm

Explore the historic district by solving clues that will lead you through some of Old Sacramento’s most iconic buildings. Make it to the end of the Scavenger hunt and your reward will be chocolate-y and sweet. Pick up your map and first clue at the Visitor’s Center. The Hunt is self-guided and untimed. Limited to 125 hunters – get your map early!

Test your chocolate-y knowledge when Fat City’s fun and free weekly trivia night goes sweet to kick off Chocolate Week.

Tango by the River, 128 J St

Sample some delicious treats while you learn how to tango in this introductory class. Grab a partner or come on your own and learn the fundamentals of Argentine Tango and moving with a partner in simple steps. There will be two one-hour classes: one at 6:30 PM and one at 7:45 PM. Celebrate chocolate with the Old Sacramento Schoolhouse Museum as they turn chocolate-y for the day. There will be chocolate treats that you won’t want to miss as you learn about education in Sacramento’s early days.

Friday afternoon is a perfect time to go on a twelve-stop self-guided “Choc-la-tour” to discover, taste and savor some delicious (and even surprising!) chocolate edibles.  This sell-out event gives you a chance to stroll and sample your way through the district making stops at participating merchants.  Tickets are just $15 per person (all ages) and can be purchased online here.

Tickets can be redeemed between 3:00pm – 6:30pm at 2nd and K Street in Front of Sports Corner Cafe, and then guests can wander at their own pace between 4:00pm – 7:00pm sampling each treat!

Learn more about the history of chocolate and how the tasty treat played a role in Sacramento’s early history as well.  Plus, kids of all ages will enjoy testing their chocolate-y knowledge with a fun word search or crossword puzzle.

Stop in and see how one of Old Sacramento’s resident chocolatiers makes their namesake treat and browse a delightful collection of sweets, cookie jars, lunch boxes and vintage decorations.

Are you the baker of the family? Does icing a cake turn into an art project in your kitchen? Enter our Chocolate Bake-Off! Buy your entry ticket here, then bring your creation to the Fratt Building on Saturday at noon to put on display. Well known Sacramento Foodies will judge the dishes at 4 PM.

We encourage the public to join us throughout the day and judge the entries for free based on how good they look. Awards given out will be Best of Show and People’s Choice. Then join us at 4 PM for Live commentary as the judges sample and determine the winner.
