THE SACRAMENTO SOUTHERN RAILROAD
The California State Railroad Museum’s popular excursion railroad — the Sacramento Southern Railroad operates April through September. Train rides include closed coach cars, open-air gondolas and a first-class observation car pulled by vintage diesel locomotives from the Museum’s collection.
The California State Railroad Museum is now offering excursion train rides to the general public on 12 pre-determined Tuesdays in 2014. Tuesday Train Rides are available on the following dates: March 18, 25; April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, and May 6. Two train ride times will be available at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the scheduled Tuesdays when the trains are running. Weekday train ride tickets are only available in-person on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 10:30 a.m. the day of the train ride at the Sacramento Southern Railroad ticket office. Beginning April 5, the Excursion Train Rides will run every hour on the hour, Saturdays and Sundays, until Sept. 28, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (weather permitting) Departs from the Central Pacific Railroad Freight Depot in Old Sacramento (Front Street, between J and K). Advance sales begin March 1
Regular coach tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youths (ages 6-17), ages 5 and under ride free. First class El Dorado tickets are $20 per person, $15 for youth (ages 6-17) ages 5 and under ride free. For more information, visit the Railroad Museum website.
Carriage and wagon rides are offered throughout the year in Old Sacramento by private coach operators. Catch a ride on 2nd Street between J and K in front of the Wells Fargo Museum and Old Sacramento Visitors Center. Call ahead to make special arrangements.
